Sorry anyone who has been checking this blog, I have been very slack lately.
I have only just got internet in a new place I am renting, and I am also sorting out a new website at the moment which will have a different style of blog.

There has been lots of waves since coming home but also a lot of stormy conditions. We have had some fun paddle swells but nothing major yet. Hopefully there will be some solid swells soon, I will try and keep things updated a bit more from now on. Until then enjoy the waves out there.

I was lucky enough to get a spot in the trials this year, but I did not last very long. I was knocked out first heat. I have finally realized that I am not a comp surfer!
I had to get out of Tahiti after that even with good waves around, I just dont belong around contests.
There is an amazing swell coming for the CT event, I would love to be there to surf that swell but not with the whole circus in town. It will be good to watch the big boys finally get some good surf for an event.

I got a call up from my good mate Tom Lowe telling me to come to Bali for the Padang cup. Somehow he got me in. I was buzzin on the idea of surfing perfect Padang. So I get in the comp, the only problem is it wasn't perfect Padang. It was real bad in the morning, I didnt even catch a wave in my heat!! haha. It got much better in the afternoon for the finials. Our mate Anthony Walsh won it in our eyes but due to bad judging he came third. It has been a fun little trip catching up with Tom and Janni and got some good waves besides.

Gnaraloo mission!

The Gnaraloo trip this year was totally different to any other I have been on.
First off our old trusty Land Cruiser died on us, very sad times.
So I had to organise hire car. My mate Koots from Wollongong was keen for the trip so he jumped on board with his mate Mitch. Another mate "Jezza" from the goldie I met in Tahiti was keen as well so he came along for the ride and my brother Kev got the week off work and that made a packed car. It was a big swell but the winds were a bit weird the whole time really.
I still loved it and it was a real funny crew to hang in the desert with. Thanks boys for the good times.
Off to Indo now, will keep you posted. Ferg

So the swell we had in Ulladulla was going straight to Fiji, I had to go. First off I have to say a huge thanks to Analog and Adam for helping me out in getting there and looking after us, could not have done it without that help. I dont really have any photos of the big days as I was surfing but here is a few of fun restaurants man what a fun wave! I only really got one good wave on the big days but it was the wave of my life, so I am still buzzin from it now. Tahitian swell dash

We made a last minute swell run to Tahiti. It was bit of a gamble so I am buzzin it worked out good. Its been a really fun mission having the gay pak back together in some heavy juice. Tom was going nuts as always and Mick was doing his thing rad as ever. Big thanks Mick for dropping everything and coming with us.

I am very sad to say COLD PRO is off.
Its real shit news, it was going to be a wicked, fun weekend.
The official press release is below. One thing I hope people realise COLD PRO did everything they could to make it happen, given the chance it would have been a great event but they have been forced into this position. Hopefully its not the end and they will be back bigger and stronger and we will get a chance to see what they can do.

Cold Pro Festival 2011 – Official Press Release.

This morning, due to factors outside of the organizers control, Cold
Pro festival has been forced to postpone our collective celebration of surf,
sounds and soul until a later date.

Events that have transpired during the last 72 hours have made it
impossible for the festival to go ahead as planned on the June bank
holiday weekend.

The ‘Powers that be’ have unfortunately and sadly decided that County
Clare and indeed Ireland will have to wait much longer for a festival like this
to be able to function as we envision it.

All of us at Cold Pro festival have put our hearts and souls into
creating an independent event run by the people for the people, and we
would like to sincerely apologize to every person that has come on
board or was as excited as us, and thank all that were aspiring to
help out or come and party with us.

We are aiming to come back stronger than ever to run the festival in
2012, possibly in a different part of Ireland, but still with the same
ideals and creative vision as the driving force behind it.

All ticket holders will be refunded in full ASAP via ticketmaster.

7’8 x 18 1/2″ x 2 5/8″. Heavy glassing (6+6)+(6+6) brings it in at about 4.5kg. Hopefully it outlasts the one that Easkey managed to break out at Aileen’s! Outline is based on my standard Aileen’s board, but tweaked a bit to feel right under Ferg’s arm. A little thinner and narrower and less full foil. Vee through the tail for stability and pocket rides, large ones…

I am sorry for the lack of updates lately but its been for a good reason, we have just come out the other end of the longest, best and most intense run of waves I have been lucky enough to have been apart of. Its been hectic trying to keep up with every new heavy pulse of good waves. I am really happy to just be in one piece after it all. I have spent more time on a jet ski in the last month then I have all year. Its great to be home especially being greeted by good waves. I thought it would be a few weeks before any real swells would arrive but 1st September the waves arrived with full force of any winter swells of that size. I had been surfing Teahupoo for the past month but I swear the waves in County Clare are far heavier. I had few waves but it was real shallow and hard on the surfboard so I had a go on the boog which was mad fun.

Trials Tahiti

Hi guys, sorry for the late update I have been real busy last few weeks.
I am on my way home now after three months on the road.

So I made it into the trials, What a great experience it was trying to mix it up with the worlds best heavy wave surfers. I made two rounds which was nothing too amazing but it felt good to be out there giving it a go.
I feel very privileged to be out there representing Ireland everyone was spinning out seeing an Irishman in the event. I cant wait to go back again next year and improve on my result and try and push Irish surfing to a new place.

So I made it to Tahiti! Very glad I went for it now. I am staying with a legend of a guy "Simon" and we had waves nine days straight from when I first arrived. Nothing massive one 6-8ft day and the rest just a nice 4-6ft.
Now it has gone completely flat and its the first time since I started traveling over two months ago, feels weird but nice just to chill.
I will try and get more photos up, here is one from one of the days..

I would like to say a quick thanks to Relentless and Yamaha. Relentless for loaning us one of there Land Rover Defenders. It was our main mode of transport throughout the winter and it proved invaluable again, especially with the winter we had in Ireland (snow and a lot of ice for over two months). Also I have to say a huge thanks to Yamaha for hooking us up with a beast of a jet ski (FX HO) It was our work horse in the salt this year and did us proud. Thanks guys, hopefully we can put the machines through there paces again next winter.

We have made it out from the desert I could very easily get lost in time out there.
It was my fourth trip up there and it still blows me away every time, I love it.
It is one of the most challenging heavy paddle waves I have surfed.
We had three very different swells in ten days. Here is a few shots from our stint.

I know this happens every year and should be used to it by now, the days getting longer, sun is actually warm and life beings again etc.
But this year has been much more noticeable, from the coldest winter ever only couple of months ago it now feels like full blown summer!
It has had an effect on the waves, with flat calm lake like conditions.
I could not stay land bound through the lovely weather so went for a amazing paddle around the Cliffs of Mohar. Such a fun evening paddling around where usually its crazy swell.

Here is my good mate Robin, he got stabbed!!

We were surfing a fun wave and he somehow impaled himself on one of his fins, nasty!

I am buzzin on this cover. I have been surfing Aileens for over three years now and I always have a hard time actually getting tubed out there. So for once I got half in there, deeper next time!
